Asá llevaba veintisiete años reinando en Judá, cuando Zimri ocupó el trono de Israel. Pero solamente reinó siete días en Tirsá, pues cuando las tropas de Israel, que estaban atacando la ciudad filistea de Guibetón, se enteraron de que Zimri había asesinado al rey, nombraron a Omrí, jefe del ejército, como el nuevo rey.
