Un día Saúl le dijo a David: ―Te voy a dar a Merab, mi hija mayor, como esposa. Pero primero tendrás que probar que eres un verdadero soldado que pelea las batallas del Señor. Porque Saúl pensó: «Lo enviaré contra los filisteos y ellos lo matarán y así no tendré que hacerlo yo».
