Mientras tanto, los amigos de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, le habían enviado noticias de la muerte de Salomón. Jeroboán se encontraba en Egipto, a donde había huido para escapar del rey Salomón. Regresó, pues, rápidamente y se hizo presente en los actos de la coronación, y, junto con los jefes de las tribus del norte, dio a conocer a Roboán las demandas del pueblo:

When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
