Pero tampoco pudieron demostrar que descendían de familias israelitas, por haber perdido sus registros genealógicos. Así que fueron excluidos del sacerdocio. El gobernador les prohibió comer con los sacerdotes y tener parte en la comida sacerdotal de los sacrificios, hasta que hubiera sido consultado el urim y el tumim, para que Dios les hiciera saber si realmente eran descendientes de los sacerdotes.
