“This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Damascus, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they threshed Gilead with sledges of iron.”
Amos, a shepherd from Tekoa, prophesies in the days of Uzziah of Judah and Jeroboam II of Israel. He begins by announcing judgment on Israel's neighbors, in a series of oracles that all start with a similar formula.
