Study note

Hosea 12 recalls the story of Jacob, the patriarch who struggled with his brother from the womb, wrestled with God and met him at Bethel. Hosea uses this history to challenge his generation: Israel descends from a man who sought God, yet the nation now trusts in deceit and alliances.
