“Jesus said to him, “Do you believe just because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.””
Jesus has just met Nathanael, who was skeptical that anything good could come from Nazareth. Jesus astonishes him by saying he saw him under the fig tree before Philip called him.
