“Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So that place has been called Gilgal to this day.”
Israel has crossed the Jordan and camped at Gilgal. The men born in the wilderness were never circumcised, so Joshua has carried out the ritual for the whole new generation before they celebrate the Passover in the land.
