“So because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to vomit you out of My mouth!”

Revelation 3:16

Study note

This verse is from the letter to Laodicea (3:14-22), a wealthy city known for banking, a textile industry and a medical school associated with an eye salve. Many scholars note that the city's water arrived by aqueduct and was lukewarm, unlike the hot springs of nearby Hierapolis and the cool water of Colossae.
