Zechariah 8:1

Study note

The verse introduces a fresh message from the Lord of hosts, the first in a string of ten short sayings that fill chapter 8. It continues the answer, begun in chapter 7, to a delegation from Bethel asking whether they should keep fasting in memory of Jerusalem's destruction.

Zechariah 8:4This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Old men and old women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of great age.
Zechariah 8:16These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another, render true and sound judgments in your gates,
Zechariah 8:23This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue will tightly grasp the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”
Isaiah 2:3And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
