I Know My Redeemer Lives

“I wish that my words were recorded and inscribed in a book, by an iron stylus on lead, or chiseled in stone forever. But I know that my Redeemer lives, and in the end He will stand upon the earth. Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God. I will see Him for myself; my eyes will behold Him, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me!”

Job had lost his children, his health and the comfort of his friends, and he was overwhelmed. Yet in the middle of this darkness, he says he knows that his Redeemer lives and that he will see God for himself. It is not a cheerful statement made from comfort; it is a rope thrown across a canyon by a man in pain. Faith does not always feel strong. Sometimes it is only a stubborn whisper: God is still there. Job's honesty is also a gift: he does not pretend everything is fine. Today, if you are in a season of suffering, say the honest thing to God, then add Job's hopeful line in your own words. If pain or hopelessness feels too heavy, please reach out to a pastor, a counselor or a local crisis line; you do not have to carry it alone.

Prayer

Redeemer, I trust that You live, even when I hurt. Stay close to me. Amen.
