Handing Over the Weight

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Peter writes to believers under pressure, and his counsel is remarkably tender: humble yourselves under God's mighty hand, and he will lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. The image is of throwing a heavy load onto someone stronger. We often try to hold our anxieties as if letting go would be irresponsible. Peter offers a different reason to release them: the God who is over everything is also personally concerned about you. Read 1 Peter 5:7 and notice that it does not say to cast only the small worries, but all of them. Casting is not a single event; we may need to do it several times in a day. Today, when a worry returns, picture yourself handing it over and say aloud, you care for me, so I give this to you.
