Blessed to Be a Blessing
“Then the LORD said to Abram, “Leave your country, your kindred, and your father’s household, and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you. ””
Long before Bethlehem, God spoke to an ordinary man named Abram and told him to leave his familiar home for a land he had not seen. Alongside the command was a promise: he would become a great nation, and through him all the families of the earth would be blessed. From the beginning, God's plan was global and generous. Christians see the birth of Jesus as the fulfillment of that promise, the blessing reaching every nation. There is also a pattern for us: God blesses us so that we might bless others. Blessing is not a reservoir to guard but a river to pass along. This week, ask who is in your reach: a lonely neighbor, a coworker far from home, a family in need. Choose one act of blessing, a meal, a ride, a gift, an honest word, and do it without expecting return. Let the story that began with Abram move through you.
Prayer
God, You have blessed me. Show me who to bless today, and give me a generous heart. Amen.
