Simple and Enough
“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
The people in Micah's day were asking how much they must bring to please God: thousands of animals, rivers of oil, even their firstborn. The prophet answers with a single verse that strips away the drama. God has already shown what is good, and it comes down to three things: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with him. Notice that none of these is a feeling to wait for. Each is a way of living in ordinary relationships. Justice means treating people fairly at work and at home. Mercy means forgiving when we have the upper hand. Humility means remembering we are not the center. Instead of trying to impress God with something big, choose one of the three. Today, ask where you have the chance to practice it: an honest price, a patient answer, an apology you owe.
Prayer
Lord, make me fair, merciful and humble in the small things of this day. Amen.
