More Than My Own Understanding
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”
We usually trust our own reasoning most when we are under stress, which is exactly when it is least reliable. Proverbs invites another way: lean fully on the Lord, acknowledge him in each path, and he will make the way straight. It also warns against being wise in our own eyes. This does not mean turning off the mind; God gave us minds to use. It means holding our conclusions loosely, asking for counsel, and praying before we commit. The passage ends with a surprising promise about health and refreshment for the body, a hint that living humbly is good for the whole person. Today, pick one decision you are about to make. Before you decide, pray about it for five minutes, then ask one wise, trusted person what they see that you might be missing.
Prayer
Father, guide my decisions today. Keep me humble and willing to listen. Amen.
