Lean Not on Your Own Understanding
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”
Trust in the Lord with all your heart is one of the best-known lines in Proverbs, and the following lines explain how. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. This is not a call to switch off your mind. It is a reminder that our understanding is limited and easily colored by fear, pride, or hurry. Acknowledging God means inviting him into the decision before we have already made it. The promise is a straightened path, not necessarily an easy one, and the passage adds that this brings health and refreshment. Today, identify one decision you are facing and pause before acting. Pray specifically about it, ask one wise person for their view, and give it a day before committing. Let your understanding work as a servant of your trust, and not the other way around.
Prayer
Lord, I bring my plans to you before I act. Straighten my path and keep me humble.
