Who Is a God Like You?

“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance— who does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion? He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.”
Micah 7:18-19 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Micah ends his prophecy, after all the warnings, with a burst of wonder. Who is a God like you, he asks, one who pardons sin and passes over rebellion? God does not cling to anger forever because he delights in showing mercy. The prophet uses two vivid pictures: God treads our sins underfoot, and hurls them into the depths of the sea. Whatever else we say about forgiveness, Micah wants us to know that God is glad to give it. Many people carry old failures as if God were still holding them against us. But repentance, in the biblical sense, ends with a cleared account and a restored relationship. Today, if some old regret keeps replaying in your mind, bring it to God once more, then set it down deliberately. Write it on a piece of paper if it helps, and throw it away as a sign of trust.

Prayer

Lord, there is no one like You. Thank You for forgiving fully and delighting in mercy. Amen.
