Consider the Birds

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
Matthew 6:25-27 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Jesus points out the window. Look at the birds, he says: they do not farm or store grain, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Then comes a question that gently exposes the futility of worry, asking whether anyone has added an hour to life by being anxious. Jesus is not scolding people for caring about food and clothing; he is inviting them to trust the Father who already knows what they need. Birds still fly, search and build nests, so this is not laziness. It is work done without panic. Today, pause once and actually watch a bird, a tree or the sky for a full minute. Let it remind you that you are more valuable to God than the sparrows he feeds. Then do the one thing within your reach today, and leave tomorrow to him.

Prayer

Father, you feed the birds and you know my needs. Free me from needless worry and help me do today's work in peace.
