Your Presence Goes With Me

“Then Moses said to the LORD, “Look, You have been telling me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor in My sight.’ Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.” And the LORD answered, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.””

Moses had a huge task and little confidence. He told God that he needed to know who would go with him. God's reply is short and warm: my presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Moses answers that without that presence he does not want to move at all, and this might be the most important sentence in the story. He did not ask for a map or a guarantee of success, only for God himself. We often pray for outcomes, when what we most need is companionship on the way. Today, before you pray about what you want to accomplish, spend a moment asking for God's presence in it. Then walk through one ordinary task, a meeting, a chore or a conversation, aware that he goes with you. Notice how rest and readiness feel different together.

Prayer

Lord, I do not want to go anywhere without you. Let your presence steady me today.
