Peace That Guards
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Paul wrote these lines from prison, so he was not offering a slogan from a comfortable chair. His instruction is to bring everything to God with thanksgiving instead of carrying it alone with worry. The promise that follows is not that every problem will vanish, but that a peace beyond human understanding will stand guard over the heart and mind, like a sentry at a gate. Notice the order: request first, peace after. Anxiety is a real experience, and for some people it is more than a spiritual habit; if worry is constant or overwhelming, please also talk with a doctor, counselor or pastor, because seeking help is wisdom, not weak faith. Today, take your top worry and turn it into a specific prayer, naming what you need and one thing you are thankful for. Then let the peace stand guard.
Prayer
Lord, I bring you what weighs on me. Guard my heart with your peace, and lead me to the right people for help.
