Run With Your Eyes Up

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

The writer pictures a race with a crowd of witnesses in the stands, people of faith who went before. The advice is to throw off whatever slows us down and keep going with endurance. Most of us are slowed less by open sin than by tangled weights: distractions, resentments, overcommitment. Then comes the key instruction: fix your eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross and now sits with the Father. When we tire, we are told to consider Him so we do not lose heart. Today, name one weight you can lay down, an app, a grudge, a habit of comparing. Set a specific boundary around it. Then, whenever you feel weary, use that moment as a reminder to look up and pray a single sentence toward Jesus.

Prayer

Jesus, help me lay aside what slows me and keep my eyes fixed on You. Amen.
