Do You Love Me?

“When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.” Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.” Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.”

After Peter had denied Jesus three times, the risen Lord did not hold a trial. By a charcoal fire, He asked three gentle questions, one for each denial, and each time gave Peter a task: feed my sheep. Restoration, in Jesus' hands, is not humiliation; it is a return to purpose. Peter was hurt by the repeated question, but it let him say aloud what was true beneath his failure. If you carry a memory of failing someone, or failing God, this scene is for you. Jesus asks about love, not performance. Today, bring your failure to Him and answer honestly. Then ask what caring act He would give you as a next step, perhaps toward someone else in need. Love received tends to become love given.

Prayer

Lord, You know that I love You. Restore me and send me to care for others. Amen.
