Loyal Love

“But Ruth replied: “Do not urge me to leave you or to turn from following you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD punish me, and ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.” When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped trying to persuade her.”

Ruth had every reason to go home. She was a widow in a foreign family with no future guaranteed. Instead she bound herself to Naomi with a promise of loyalty that reached beyond convenience, and she chose Naomi's God as her own. Nothing in the moment looked rewarding; the reward came later, in ways she could not have planned. Faithfulness is often like that: it costs first and blesses afterward. Loyal love shows up when someone is bitter, tired or low, exactly when it is hardest to stay. Think of one person in your life who is going through a hard season. Today, do something small that says you are not leaving: a call, a meal, an hour of your time. Loyalty is built in ordinary acts like these, and God notices them.

Prayer

Faithful God, make me a loyal friend to the people You have placed near me. Amen.
