When Your Own Understanding Runs Out

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”
Proverbs 3:5-8 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Most of us love a plan, and there is nothing wrong with planning. But this proverb speaks to the moment when the plan has a hole in it and the facts do not add up. Trusting God with all the heart means placing our confusion in his hands instead of demanding that everything make sense first. The text does not say we should switch off our minds; it says we should not lean our full weight on them. To acknowledge him in all our ways, as Proverbs 3:6 puts it, means inviting him into ordinary decisions too, the email we must answer, the choice we keep postponing. Straight paths are promised, though not always short or easy ones. Today, name one decision that has been weighing on you. Say a plain prayer about it out loud, then do the next small thing you already know to be right.
