Strength for the Weary

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is beyond searching out. He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Isaiah wrote to people who felt forgotten and exhausted, far from home and unsure that God still saw them. His answer starts with who God is: the Creator who never grows tired and whose understanding no one can measure. Then comes the tender part, that he gives power to the faint. Notice the order. He does not first demand that we get stronger; he gives strength to those who admit they are weary. Waiting on the Lord, in Isaiah 40:31, is not passive sitting around but hopeful trust, like leaning your weight on something that will hold. Renewal comes in rhythms: soaring at times, running at others, and often just walking without fainting. Today, be honest about where you are worn out. Take ten minutes with no screen, breathe slowly, and ask God for enough strength for today's walk, not for the whole year.
