Entonces Johanán tuvo una conferencia privada con Guedalías, en la que Johanán se ofreció para matar a Ismael en secreto. ―¿Por qué habríamos de permitirle que venga a asesinarte? —preguntó Johanán—. ¿Qué les ocurrirá a los judíos que se han quedado si tú mueres? ¡Seguro serían esparcidos y se perdería este remanente del pueblo que aun queda!
