“The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.”
John is contrasting two families: those who practice righteousness as children of God and those who persist in sin as followers of the devil. He is refuting teachers who said sin did not matter.
