1 Kings 5
Berean Standard Bible18 verses · 2 min read
Hiram, king of Tyre, sends greetings to Solomon, and Solomon responds that David could not build a house for the Lord because of constant warfare, but now God has given rest on every side. He requests cedar and pine from Lebanon, and Hiram agrees in exchange for wheat and oil. Solomon organizes forced labor from Israel, thirty thousand men working in shifts, along with tens of thousands of carriers and stonecutters. Skilled craftsmen quarry and shape the stone. The chapter sets the stage for the temple by showing peace, international cooperation, and heavy human effort, though the burden on the workers will later fuel resentment.
