2 Samuel 9
Berean Standard Bible13 verses · 2 min read
Remembering his covenant with Jonathan, David asks whether anyone is left of Saul's house to whom he can show kindness. A servant, Ziba, tells him of Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, crippled in both feet since childhood. David sends for him and restores all of Saul's family land, granting him a permanent place at the king's table. Mephibosheth bows, calling himself a dead dog, and Ziba's household is assigned to work the land. Mephibosheth eats at David's table like one of the king's sons. Many readers see in the story a picture of grace: kindness offered to someone with no claim, simply because of a promise made.
