James 2
Berean Standard Bible26 verses · 3 min read
James condemns favoritism in the church, such as giving the best seats to the rich while dishonoring the poor, when God has chosen the poor to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom. Showing partiality breaks the royal law to love your neighbor as yourself. He then argues that faith without works is dead: wishing a hungry person well without feeding them does no good. Even demons believe there is one God. Abraham and Rahab are offered as examples of faith shown in action. Many see James and Paul as complementary, while others have seen tension between them, especially over what it means to be justified.
