Jeremiah 39
Berean Standard Bible18 verses · 3 min read
In Zedekiah's ninth year, Nebuchadnezzar besieges Jerusalem, and after eighteen months a breach is made in the wall. Zedekiah flees but is caught near Jericho; the Babylonians kill his sons before his eyes, then blind him and carry him off in chains. The city is burned, its walls torn down, and most of the people are exiled, leaving only some of the poorest. On Nebuchadnezzar's orders, Jeremiah is released and entrusted to Gedaliah. God gives a promise to Ebed-Melech, the Cushite who saved Jeremiah: he will be delivered and his life spared, because he trusted in God.
