Leviticus 24
Berean Standard Bible23 verses · 2 min read
The Lord instructs Moses on keeping the lamps burning continually with pure olive oil and on setting out twelve loaves of bread, one for each tribe, on the table before the Lord every Sabbath. The chapter then tells of a man, the son of an Israelite mother and Egyptian father, who blasphemes the Name and is put in custody until the Lord gives direction. God orders that he be stoned by the community, and states that the same law applies to native-born and foreigner. The principle of proportionate justice, often summarized as eye for eye, is restated as a limit on penalty, and the people carry out the sentence.
