Mercy Fresh Each Morning
“Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.””
Lamentations is a book of tears written after a city fell. In the middle of its grief, the writer suddenly turns and remembers something that gives him hope. The steadfast love of the Lord never ends, and his mercies are new every morning. He does not pretend the pain is gone. He names it, then chooses to remember. Grief and hope can share the same page. Read Lamentations 3:23 and notice that mercy is described as renewed daily, which means yesterday's failures and sorrows do not use up today's supply. If you are grieving, there is no deadline, and it is wise to lean on a pastor, a counselor, or a grief group; if you feel unsafe, contact a local crisis line right away. Today, write one sentence beginning with, this morning I need your mercy for, and bring it to God.
