A Quiet Place Before Dawn

“Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went out to a solitary place to pray.”
Mark 1:35 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

The previous evening in Capernaum had been crowded: the whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many. Yet Mark records that very early, while it was still dark, He got up, left, and went to a solitary place to pray. Nothing about His schedule was empty. He simply understood that His work grew out of communion with the Father and not the reverse. When the disciples found Him, everyone was looking for Him, and He chose to move on to other towns rather than be defined by demand. If Jesus needed unhurried time with God, we certainly do. A quiet place does not have to be a mountain. It can be a kitchen chair, a parked car, or a walk around the block. Tomorrow morning, choose ten minutes before the noise begins, and try it. Tell God honestly how you are, and listen.

Prayer

Father, draw me into quiet with You. Let my work grow out of Your presence. Amen.
