Asking for Wisdom
“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
James writes to believers under pressure, and one of his first pieces of advice is practical: if any of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. Two things stand out. First, God is generous and not stingy, and He does not scold us for asking again. Second, we are to ask in faith, without doubting, like a wave tossed by the wind. That is not a demand for perfect certainty. It is a call to ask expecting an answer, rather than hedging every prayer with an escape route. Wisdom here is not information but skillful living, knowing what to do next. Consider the decision in front of you this week. Write it as a plain question, pray it each morning for a few days, and talk with a trusted, mature believer as one of the ways God may answer.
Prayer
Generous God, I lack wisdom. Give me clear eyes and a willing heart. Amen.
