Praying Three Times a Day

“Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Daniel 6:10 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

Daniel served in a foreign empire, and jealous officials tricked the king into signing a law forbidding prayer to anyone but the king for thirty days. Daniel heard about it, went home to his upstairs room with its windows open toward Jerusalem, and prayed three times a day, giving thanks, as he had always done. He did not stage a protest, and he did not hide. He kept his ordinary rhythm. That steadiness is the lesson. Faithfulness under pressure grows from habits built long before the pressure arrives. The lions' den came later, and God's care of him there is famous, but the real victory was won in an upstairs room on an ordinary afternoon. What regular practice keeps you tethered to God? Today, choose a simple anchor, like a short prayer before meals or at your desk at noon, and keep it steadily this week.

Prayer

Faithful God, make my devotion steady. Build habits in me that hold when pressure comes. Amen.
