Known Before Birth

“For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.”

David marvels that God formed his inner parts and knit him together in his mother's womb. The psalm speaks of being fearfully and wonderfully made and of a Creator who saw his unformed body and wrote every day of his life before one of them came to be. It is a psalm of belonging. You were not an accident to God, whatever your family story was, and no chapter of your life is outside His attention. Many people carry a quiet sense of not being enough, and this passage speaks to that. Worth is given before it is earned. That does not make sin unimportant, but it roots our identity in being made and loved. Today, stand in front of a mirror for a moment and say one honest sentence of thanks to God for how you were made. If shame weighs on you heavily, talk with a pastor or counselor.

Prayer
