Do Not Grow Weary
“Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.”
Paul writes to people who are tired. Doing good week after week, especially when nobody notices, wears the soul down. His encouragement is short and firm: let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. The farming image is honest. Seed is buried and nothing shows for a long time, then fruit comes in season. He adds a very practical corollary: as we have opportunity, do good to everyone, especially to the family of believers. Opportunity is the key word. We rarely get grand chances, but we are given ordinary ones every day: a door to hold, an encouraging note, a meal, a listening ear. Today, choose one person who has been quietly serving and thank them specifically. Then do one unseen act of kindness for someone else, without mentioning it.
Prayer
Lord, when I grow weary in doing good, renew my strength. Let me sow kindness today. Amen.
