Love in Action
“Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another. Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer. Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Paul gives a list that reads like a training plan for love. Let love be genuine, not acted. Hold on to what is good, and turn away from what is evil. Be devoted to one another, and outdo each other in showing honor. Be joyful in hope, patient in trouble, and faithful in prayer. Share with those in need, and practice hospitality. Almost every phrase is a verb, an action, and none of them depends on feelings alone. Love here is something you do with your calendar, your table, and your wallet. It is easy to admire lists like this and forget them by evening. So pick one. Today, choose a single line from this passage, perhaps hospitality or honoring someone, and plan one specific way to do it before nightfall. Small, practical love is how faith becomes visible.
Prayer
Father, make my love real. Turn my good intentions into small acts today.
