Do Not Forget His Benefits

“Bless the LORD, O my soul; all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His kind deeds— He who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit and crowns you with loving devotion and compassion, who satisfies you with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

David talks to himself, which is a healthy habit: bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He lists a few. God forgives all our sins, heals our diseases, redeems our life from the pit, crowns us with love and compassion, and satisfies us with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle's. Notice the command to remember. Forgetfulness is a constant temptation, especially in a busy month like this one, when we can slip into treating blessings as background noise. Gratitude is a discipline of memory. Today, take a piece of paper and write down ten specific gifts God has given you recently, big and small, including things you might overlook, such as clean water or a text from a friend. Read the list aloud as a prayer, and end this month with a thankful heart.

Prayer

Bless the Lord, my soul. Help me remember every good thing you have done.
