Let the Children Come
“Now people were bringing the little children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them, and the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.”
The disciples try to protect Jesus' time by turning parents and children away. Jesus is indignant, which is a strong word, and says to let the children come, because the kingdom belongs to such as these. Then he takes them in his arms and blesses them. Children receive without earning, ask without pretending and trust without calculating. Jesus says that is how the kingdom must be received. Adults tend to complicate faith with performance and fear of failure. Today, choose one simple way to become childlike in your faith: ask God for something plainly, without polishing your words. If there are children in your life, give them your full attention for ten minutes, and notice what they can teach you. If you are a parent, bless them aloud today, as Jesus did.
Prayer
Jesus, help me receive your kingdom with a child's open hands.
