Joy, Prayer, Thanks

“Rejoice at all times. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

These three short commands sound impossible: rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in every circumstance. Paul does not say to feel happy about everything; he says to give thanks in all circumstances, not for all of them. The practices are meant to be woven through a day rather than squeezed into one slot. Praying continually can mean a running conversation with God, a breath prayer while waiting in traffic, a short thank-you at the end of a meeting. Gratitude, in particular, trains attention to notice what God is already doing. Today, set three quiet reminders on your phone. Each time one goes off, pause for ten seconds and name one thing you are grateful for and one person you want to lift in prayer. Small, frequent turns toward God can slowly change the tone of a whole life.

Prayer

Father, weave joy, prayer and thanks into the small moments of my day.
