He Stands at the Door
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.”
In a letter to a lukewarm church, Jesus offers a startling picture: he is standing outside the door, knocking. He does not break it down. He waits for someone to hear his voice and open, promising to come in and share a meal. Table fellowship in the ancient world meant friendship and acceptance. The image is not of a stern judge but of a friend who wants to be with us, even in the messy, half-committed parts of our lives. As June ends and the year turns past its midpoint, it is a good moment to ask what we have left outside. Today, choose one room of your life, your work, your finances, your relationships, and consciously invite Jesus in. Say it aloud, and then sit for a minute, listening.
Prayer
Jesus, I open the door. Come in and share life with me.
