Love That Fills the House
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.”
Israel's most treasured prayer begins with a declaration that the Lord is one, and then moves straight to love: with heart, soul and strength. Faith here is not a Sunday activity. Moses says these words are to be repeated at home, on the road, when lying down and when getting up. Love for God is meant to seep into conversation, calendars and even the doorframes of the house. This is not a call to perfection but to rhythm. Small, repeated habits shape a heart more than occasional bursts of zeal. Today, choose one simple rhythm to attach to something you already do. Perhaps you will read a verse while the coffee brews, or say a short blessing at dinner. Start small, keep it steady, and let God become the atmosphere of your home rather than an occasional visitor.
Prayer
God, be the rhythm of my home. Help me love you in small, faithful ways every day.
