Choose Today
“Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!””
Joshua, old and respected, gathers the people and puts the matter plainly: choose whom you will serve. There is no neutral option. Everyone serves something, whether comfort, reputation, money or the Lord. What makes Joshua's speech powerful is that he does not only give an order; he stakes his own household on the answer. His decision is made ahead of time, so that pressure does not decide for him. Many of our spiritual failures come from postponing the choice until the moment of temptation. Today, name honestly what competes for first place in your heart. Then say out loud one concrete commitment you are making for your home this week, such as a shared meal without screens, a weekly prayer, or a habit of generosity. Choosing God is rarely a single grand moment; it is a series of small yeses.
Prayer
Lord, my household and I want to serve you. Make our small choices point your way.
