More Are With Us

“When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early in the morning, behold, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?” “Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

Elisha's servant wakes to find an army surrounding the city, and panic sets in. Elisha stays calm, saying that those with us outnumber those against us. Then he prays, not that the enemy would disappear, but that the servant's eyes would be opened. Suddenly the hills are full of fiery horses and chariots. Nothing changed in the circumstances; what changed was the servant's sight. Fear tends to shrink our view to the problem in front of us. Faith widens it to include God's unseen care. Today, when a worry surfaces, pause and pray for open eyes rather than a quick fix. Then list three ways God has helped you before. Remembering his past faithfulness is one of the simplest ways to see that you are not facing this alone.

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to see that you are with me, and that your care is bigger than my fear.
