When God Answers With Wonder
“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: “Who is this who obscures My counsel by words without knowledge? Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who fixed its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its foundations set, or who laid its cornerstone, while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
After chapters of suffering and arguments, Job finally gets an answer, but not the explanation he wanted. God speaks from the storm and asks where Job was when the earth's foundations were laid. It might sound harsh, yet the effect is to lift Job's eyes from his pain to the vastness of creation and the wisdom behind it. Sometimes God does not explain; he invites us to trust. If you are living with questions that have no clear answers, whether loss, illness or disappointment, this passage does not shame you for asking. It reminds you that the one who holds the world is also holding you. Today, spend a few minutes outside if you can, looking at the sky or a tree. Let wonder loosen your grip on needing to understand everything. If grief feels heavy, consider talking with a pastor or counselor.
Prayer
God of the storm and the stars, I trust you with the questions I cannot answer.
