Known Before Born
“For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.”
David marvels that God knew him before anyone else did. In the hidden place of the womb, the psalm says, God was already at work, weaving and shaping. The writer's response is worship, not pride: I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and your works are wonderful. This matters when we struggle with how we look, what we lack, or whether we matter at all. Your value was not assigned by a crowd, a scale or a screen; it was set by the One who designed you on purpose. If negative thoughts about yourself are heavy or constant, sharing them with a counselor or pastor is a wise and brave step. Today, replace one critical thought about yourself with a statement of thanks to your Maker. Say it plainly, even if it feels awkward, and then treat someone else as equally intentional.
Prayer
Creator, thank you for making me on purpose. Help me see myself and others as you do.
