You Are Mine

“But now, this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place.”

As the month ends, God speaks through Isaiah with words that begin with reassurance: do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. Then he acknowledges that hard things will happen: waters, rivers and fire. The promise is not that the trials will be avoided but that he will be with us in them, and they will not overwhelm or consume us. Notice the order: identity first, then difficulty. Before the water rises, God has already said whose we are. This is how believers can face uncertainty without collapsing. You may be carrying stress from the month behind you or worries about the one ahead. Today, sit quietly and let yourself hear your name spoken by the Lord. Then hand over one specific concern and thank him that you belong to him.

Prayer

Lord, you call me by name and I am yours. Walk with me through the waters and the fires ahead.
