A Blessing to Speak Over Others

“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons: This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: ‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’ So they shall put My name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.””

God gives Moses a short blessing for Aaron and his sons to speak over the people. It has three parts: may the Lord bless you and keep you, may He shine His face on you and be gracious, may He lift His face toward you and give you peace. The last line says that when this blessing is spoken, God's name is placed on His people. Blessing someone is not just a kind wish; it is a way of asking God's presence to rest on them. Most of us can bless others in ordinary ways, at the dinner table, in a message, or at a doorway. Today, choose one person, a child, a friend, a coworker, and speak this blessing over them, in person or in your prayer. If you can, say it to their face, gently. Notice how it changes the way you see them.

Prayer

Lord, bless and keep those I love. Let Your face shine on them and give them Your peace. Amen.
